  • jake is skating

So i brought jake to the public skate on Saturday, needless to say he was a bit reluctant to get out of his jamies.    Towards the end of last year he began feeling confident standing and taking steps on the ice.   So this fall i was excited to get him out again.   As i was tightening his skates, he mention "you always do that daddy."  do what, i said. "tighten my skates too tight."
He requested i skate while holding him around the rink, but that didn't last long and he was back to getting the feel again.    I explained some basics that i didn't feel was necessary last year, as not to overwhelm him.   Push forward with one leg a glide.   He was looking around at the other little tikes and looked very determined.   Suddenly he started moving his legs in and out and propelled him self forward!  Success!!   "VERY GOOD."  i explained and let him know that's exactly how i started to learn.   It had been so long that i had forgotten the basic, basic, form of keeping you skates on the ice and moving them in and out.
The skate was for almost 40 minutes and we got off before he could get frustrated or tired.    He asked his mom the very next day if they could go skating.    I'm so Pumped!!   I do hope he picks up a full stride this year.

I have to remember the joy of learning hockey when he has 6:00 am hockey practice and wants the $400 skates.
